Hey Oppo. It’s been a while.
I went to the JLR Ice Academy in northern Sweden last week.
It was a pretty surreal experience. We got to drive the RR Sport, Velar, F-Pace, and F-Type on a series of tracks built on a gigantic frozen lake. All cars had studded tires, but that was it. No traction or stability control, and the F-Type was RWD. The SUVs were all TDV6s, the F-Type was the 380hp V6 (not the new body style).
We got a lot of driving time - a half hour per track session per driver (two per car). Day 1 and Day 2 had 6 tracks each. Day 2 also featured a tour of JLR’s testing facility and some prototypes (which I am bound by an NDA in regards to discussing). Day 3 had a drive up to the Arctic circle in RR Sports.
We got to drive the Velar and F-PACE the most, and the F-TYPE twice.
The F-TYPE was the obvious star of the weekend, but the F-PACE was surprisingly good! We specifically used it for a mile-long powerslide track, with the goal of maintaining the slide at 60mph. I held the slide about half way, but not at 60 (I lost my nerve at 50, lol).
The Velar handled well but was just so buggy - the climate control and backup camera went nuts on our car, and another kept stalling.
The Project 8 was just for ride alongs (boo)

Added to the bucket list. Thanks for sharing, that sounds (and looks!) amazing. I absolutely love the front bumper guards.

I follow JLR and a few other Landy tags on insta, and it seems like these events always have a Disco4 as a part of them. Not so on your trip? I see the Disco5, but it’s just not the same.

I noticed that with LR events, starting in about 2017, started using Disco 4s over the normal Defender 110, then they switched to the 5, so I guess the new Defender 110 will just come back and replace it. The Discovery was just filling in for the Defender. Don’t know if it’s the same in other countries, but oh well.
